Anointing of the Sick
Opportunities to Receive the Anointing of the Sick:
The Anointing of the Sick, formerly known as last rites is no longer considered a sacrament only for those at the point of death. Instead, this healing sacrament is for all those who are facing major surgery, chronic illness, or the weakness that comes with age. Call a priest before surgery. Communal celebrations of the sacrament are celebrated regularly. For information, please contact the office 318-865-3581.
Did you know that you don’t have to be in the hospital to receive the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick? In cases of a planned surgery, parishioners are invited to contact the church office and receive the sacrament in the office. This can be done by simply setting up an appointment with Fr. Karl or Fr. Lombard. The sacrament does not have to be administered on the hospital bed or the day of the surgery; it can be done in advance of the procedure. The same holds true in the event that an illness has been recently diagnosed. If the case though, results in unexpected hospitalization, a parishioner or a family member is encouraged to contact the church office and the priest will be able to administer the sacrament in any setting.
It is a top priority of the clergy at St. Joseph Church to be there for parishioners in their time of need. For more information regarding the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, please contact the church office.
